Eagles let two slip away at Montevallo

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - The Carson-Newman Eagles baseball team dropped its first two games of the season on Saturday afternoon to the University of Montevallo, 6-4 and 6-5.
With the losses, C-N falls to 4-2 to open the season.
Game 1: Montevallo 6, Carson-Newman 4
The Eagles let a 4-1 lead in the seventh inning slip away, giving up a five-spot in the bottom of the seventh to fall 6-4 in Game 1 on Saturday's doubleheader.
C-N pounded out 10 hits, but left nine base.
Sophomore Wesley Dozier (Cornelious, N.C.) went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Junior Mills Rogers (Simpsonville, S.C.) and senior Tyler Wynn (LaGrange, Ga.) each added two hits.
Junior Michael Elliott (Chattanooga, Tenn.) took the loss (0-1) for the Eagles.
Game 1: Montevallo 6, Carson-Newman 5
Carson-Newman left 13 runners on base as Montevallo rallied with four runs in the final two frames to pick up a 6-5 win.
The Eagles led 4-2 in the sixth and 5-4 in the top seventh, but the bullpen couldn't hold the lead.
Freshman Zach Long (Jefferson City, Tenn.) and sophomore Evan Patterson (Knoxville, Tenn.) each had three hits for the Eagles.
Through six games, the Eagles have 81 hits, and have reached double figures in every game this season.
C-N returns to action on Thursday at Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, N.C. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
