LMU sweeps Carson-Newman, 9-6 and 3-0.

HARROGATE, TN - The Lincoln Memorial University baseball team swept a double-header against Carson-Newman College Friday evening to improve to 10-7 overall and 2-3 in the South Atlantic Conference.
After falling behind in the first game, the Railsplitter battled back in the late innings to take a come-from-behind 9-6 victory over the Eagles. Ray Burchell (Corryton, TN) entered the game in relief in the sixth inning and picked up the win to improve to 1-0 on the season, while Carson-Newman's Michael Elliott took the loss, bringing his record to 0-3.
LMU sophmore John Couch (Bonneyman, KY) played a key roll in the Railsplitters first win of the evening. Couch finished the game 2-5 at the plate with a homerun and three RBI, while teammate J.R. Roden (Leb anon, TN) was 2-4 with one run batted in.
The second game saw the Railsplitters take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning behind several walks by the Carson-Newman pitching staff. The 1-0 margin stood until the bottom of the third when the Railsplitter's Ralph Rosas (Bayamon, PR) reached first base on a Carson-Newman fielding error that allowed teammate Cody Pack (Andersonville, TN) to score from third.
In the fifth inning, the Railsplitters put their final run across the plate when Ben Adleburg (Madisonville, FL) reach on another Eagle fielding error and that exchange allowed John Couch to score from third to put LMU ahead 3-0
Railsplitter pitcher Josh Strawn (Bradenton, FL) went the distance and got the win in the second game to improve to 3-0 on the year. Strawn scattered four Eagle hits over seven innings, allowing no runs, no walks and struck out 10 Carson-Newman bat t ers.
While the Eagles used three pitchers in the second game against the Railsplitters, it was Justin Higdon that got the loss to fall to 2-2 on the year, while Carson-Newman as a team falls to 10-7 and 0-4 in SAC play.
LMU and Carson-Newman will play the final game of the series Saturday afternoon weather permitting at 2:00 p.m. on the Lamar Hennon Field.
