Henderson collects TSWA Pitcher of the Week honor
Carson-Newman sophomore pitcher Christian Henderson was named Tennessee Sports Writers’ Association Pitcher of the Week by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman sophomore pitcher Christian Henderson was named Tennessee Sports Writers' Association Pitcher of the Week by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
This is Henderson's second career honor, first from TSWA and the first weekly honor by a C-N player this season.
The sophomore was magnificent in Carson-Newman's 12-0 win in the second game of the three-game sweep of Emory & Henry this past weekend. For the second straight season, Henderson tossed a complete game against Emory & Henry, but this one was a nine-inning complete game shutout, the program's first since Brayden Coe at the conference tournament in April of 2021.
The sophomore pitcher allowed just three hits and just three baserunners and recorded seven strikeouts, five of which came in the final three frames. Henderson retired the first nine hitters of the game and the final 11 hitters he faced.
The Clarksville native got 10 groundouts, seven fly outs, seven strikeouts and two double plays for his 27 outs.
Henderson's complete game shutout is just the program's third in the past 11 years and just the second against a conference opponent.
