JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman welcomes No. 10/6 Lenoir-Rhyne (6-1, 2-1 SAC) to the Silver Diamond Baseball Complex for its first South Atlantic Conference home series of the season, starting tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
Carson-Newman was unbeaten in home series this past season and has won its past eight home series. To start this season, C-N has won its first five games and owns a six-game home winning streak. It's the longest active home winning streak in the SAC and the third-longest streak in the Southeast Region.
The Eagles entered last season with zero series wins over top ten opponents and went two for two last season, defeating #6 Florida Southern #7 Lenoir-Rhyne at home. Both series wins featured wins in the series opener and finale. C-N is 2-9-4 in series' all-time versus top ten clubs. This weekend, head coach Tom Griffin's team gets their first opportunity against a ranked team. Under Griffin, C-N is 39-73 against ranked competition, with 25 of those wins coming in Mossy Creek.
Logan Floyd (Adairsville, Ga.) entered the year with a 35-game on base streak. The junior infielder has reached base in all nine games he has played in to extend his streak to 44 games. Floyd passes Evan Jurjevic who reached base in 43 straight games from early February to the end of April in 2015. The junior infielder leads the Eagles and the SAC with a .500 batting average and 14 RBI.
Carson-Newman's starting pitching has been outstanding to begin the season. A four-man rotation of Kolton Casson, Christian Henderson, Drew Fletcher and Ryan Higgins has produced a 2.06 ERA in 48 innings through 10 starts. Casson's 0.60 ERA leads the team along with a DII-best three wins.
Carson-Newman and Lenoir-Rhyne met four times in 2025. The Eagles won two of the three games in a home series last year, winning the opener and finale. The fourth meeting came at the SAC Tournament, with LR splitting the season series with a 12-3 win in that contest. Overall, C-N is 69-42 all-time against the Bears and has a strong 42-14 mark when playing at home.
The reigning Southeast Region champions are off to another good start in 2026. The Bears are off to a 6-1 start to the season and have won three straight games. They won two of the three games against Wingate in their opening conference series of the season this past weekend. LR has collected non-conference series sweep over Columbus State and is coming off a midweek win over USC Beaufort. They have been ranked in the top ten by all three major polls, with their highest ranking being sixth by the American Baseball Coaches' Association.
After breaking the DII record for home runs in a season last year, Lenoir-Rhyne has picked up right where it left off in 2025. They have hit 11 home runs and are averaging more than 10 runs per game. LR has scored double-digit runs in four of its six wins. The Bears offense leads the conference with a .351 batting average and a .590 slugging percentage.
Reigning SAC and Southeast Region Player of the Year Mackenzie Wainwright is back for a second season with the Bears. He has a hit in each of his first seven games and is hitting .417 with two home runs and seven RBI.
Newcomers Lleyton Lackey and Matt Procopio have been standout additions early in the year. Lackey, the Clemson transfer, has drove in a team-high 15 runs and has two four-hit days already this season. Procopio leads the Bears offense with his .444 batting average and three home runs.
LR's pitching staff has produced a 5.03 earned run average through seven games. Game three starter Kellen Gradisar has been their top starter, winning with his both starts. In 13 innings, the right-hander has a 1.38 ERA. Michael Burnley is LR's top relief pitcher, tossing a team-high seven innings out of the bullpen. He has eight strikeouts and a 3.86 era.
