Charamba named SAC Varsity Gems Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C.- Makanakaishe Charamba was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for his performance during the sixth week of competition today, April 25.
ROCK HILL, S.C.- Makanakaishe Charamba was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Men's Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week for his performance during the sixth week of competition today, April 25.
Charamba is a sophomore sprinter from Harare, Zimbabwe who competed at the Georgia Tech Invitational with Carson-Newman track and field this past weekend. He competed in the 200-meter dash and won gold with a time of 20.65 seconds. Charamba placed second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.29 seconds and he was also part of the 4x100-meter relay team that won gold in 39.66.
This is Charamba's second SAC Varsity Gems Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honor this season. He also won the award for his 200-meter dash at the Tennessee Invite where he finished second in the event in 20.49, a new personal record.
Carson-Newman track and field will be back in action at the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships beginning Wednesday, May 3 in Anderson, S.C.
