Sangare named SAC Varsity Gems Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C.- Kadidja Sangare was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for her performance during the second week of the indoor track and field season.
ROCK HILL, S.C.- Kadidja Sangare was named the South Atlantic Conference Varsity Gems Women's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week for her performance during the second week of the indoor track and field season.
Sangare is a freshman jumper for the Eagles and competed in the Bast-Cregger Invitational in Salem, Va. this past weekend for her Carson-Newman debut. The invitational was hosted by Roanoke College as an unscored team invite.
The Eagles found success throughout the meet and left with a collection of first-place finishes. Carson-Newman also recorded five national qualifying marks over the weekend. Sangare contributed to that success with her NCAA qualifying time of 9.03 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles. Her efforts afforded her a win in the event.
Sangare also competed in the long jump and won with a leap of 5.68 meters.
"For the freshmen, this meet gives an opportunity to gain experience. We want to forge a new path of success," Carson-Newman Head track and field coach David Needs said.
The Bast-Cregger Invitational was the first meet of the 2022-23 indoor track and field season for the Eagles. Head coach David Needs will be announcing the remainder of the Eagles' schedule in the near future.
