The Eagles will begin the outdoor season at the Trojan Opener in Anderson, S.C. this weekend, Friday, Mar. 17 and Saturday, Mar. 18.
At the conclusion of the 2022-2023 indoor season, Carson-Newman men's track and field finished third in the conference, and the women's team placed fourth overall.
Three Eagles were selected to attend the 2023 NCAA DII Indoor Track and Field Championships. Makanakaishe Charamba became a national champion in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 20.55 seconds. Charamba became the track and field program's third national champion, joining Larry Cooke (Long Jump, 1978) and Tanner Stepp (High Jump, 2018). Sade De Sousa also garnered All-American honors as she placed fifth in the 60-meter dash finals in 7.37 seconds. De Sousa and Sangare are the first two female All-Americans since Tori Gaul in 2018 who placed 10th in the pole vault.
"We are proud of the way we ended the indoor season. We will obviously give Maka a rest heading into this meet. He's earned that, but I know he and the rest of the team is ready to continue competing," head track and field coach David Needs said.

The triple jump event will begin at 2:00 p.m. On Saturday, track events will begin at 9:30 a.m. while field events will start at 11:00 a.m. Saturday's events will last all day and end with the 4x400 meter relay at 5:35 p.m.
"We've set our training up so that we start to peak later in this outdoor season. I'm excited to see these athletes continue to climb to the level they will be at as we near conference championships. That starts this weekend," Needs said.
