TOCCOA, Ga. – The Eagles men's golf team sits in 12th following day one of the Currahee Invitational, with Nick Daugherty in the top-five.
Leading the Eagles is Nick Daugherty, stroking a 4-over first round before a 5-under round two to finish at 1-under in 3rd.
Daugherty stroked the first two holes over par, but dropped a stroke after two birdies, limiting the damage of a bogey and stroked the rest of the holes at par to enter the back nine at 2-over. Despite seven pars on the back, Daugherty added a pair of strokes on a pair of bogeys to finish the round at 4-over.
Daugherty stroked an impressive second round, shooting a 67 to jump 27 spots. His front nine featured three bogeys six pars to enter the back nine at 3-under. Despite an early bogey, Daugherty carded three birdies on the back nine to drop a pair of strokes and finish the round at 5-over.
Freshman Will Bacon finished the day in 40th following a 78 stroke 1st round and a 75 in round two to finish the day at 9-over.
Bacon started the day nicely with three pars before tallying four bogeys the rest of the way to enter the back nine at 4-over. On the back nine, the freshman stroked two early birdies before adding four strokes down the stretch on a pair of bogeys and a double bogey to finish the round at 6-over.
In round two, Bacon limited the damage of a pair of holes over par on the front nine with two birdies and five pars, entering the day's final stretch at 2-over. On the back nine, Bacon added two birdies, but two holes over par added a stroke to his total to finish the round at 3-over.
Noah Cambridge sits in 48th following a pair of 78s in the first day of action.
Cambridge had a back-and-forth front nine, matching a pair of bogeys with two birdies before a late bogey to enter the back nine at 1-over. Despite an early birdie, Cambridge added five strokes on five holes over par on the first round's final stretch to end the round at 6-over.
In the second round, Cambridge steadied out after an early bogey, stroking five consecutive pars before a bogey and a birdie to finish the front nine at 1-over. Despite four early pars, Cambridge added five strokes on the back nine due to three holes over par and finished the round at 6-over.
Elliot MacGregor slides in at 61st at 14-over, shooting a 78 and an 80 in his first two rounds of play.
Similar to Bacon's start, MacGregor notched four early pars and limited the damage of a pair of holes over par with two birdies on the front nine to enter the back nine at 1-over. Despite two birdies on the back nine, a trio of double bogeys plagued MacGregor and added five strokes to his total to end his round at 6-over.
In the second round, despite two birdies on the front nine, MacGregor had four holes over par to enter the final stretch at 4-over. On the back nine, MacGregor added four strokes on three holes over par to finish the round at 8-over.
Aidan Powter rounds out the Eagles on day one, sitting tied for 64th at 15-over.
Powter stroked three early pars on the front nine before a trio of bogeys, limited by a late birdie to enter the back nine at 2-over. Despite five pars on the back nine, four holes over par added six strokes to Powter's total to end the round at 8-over.
Powter started the front nine nicely in round twom stroking six pars and a birdie before a bogey and a double bogey to end the front nine and enter the back half at 2-over. On the back nine, Powter carded five pars before adding five strokes to his total with the final four holes over par to finish the round at 7-over.
The Eagles will look to close out the fall season on a high note, starting round three of the Currahee Invitational at 8 AM on Tuesday.
