Eagles in 9th Following Day One of UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate

"We played much better as a team than we did in the first tournament," head coach Randy Wylie said. "Everybody made big contributions. Especially good rounds from Noah [Cambridge] and our two true freshmen."
In his Eagles debut, freshman Stefans Spruzs delivered a solid outing. Spruzs carded a 75-stroke first round, starting his day with back-to-back birdies, and added another on hole five to sit at 1-under after the front nine. Despite a bogey to start the back nine, the freshman followed three consecutive pars before a birdie on hole 14. He added four strokes down the stretch to finish the round at 3-over.
Spruzs delivered an impressive 70-stroke second round, shooting a birdie on hole two before seven consecutive pars. On the back nine, Spruzs dropped another stroke with two birdies to negate a bogey and shot the rest of the holes at par to finish the round at 2-under.
The other Eagle freshman, Will Bacon, also delivered an impressive debut, shooting a 77 in round one before a much improved 70-stroke second round. Bacon's first round featured two birdies to limit the damage of four holes over par on the front nine. On the back nine, the freshman carded six pars and added another birdie but added a couple of strokes to finish the round at 5-over.
The Kingston, Tenn. native started his second round with five straight pars followed by a birdie but added two strokes on back-to-back bogeys. On the back nine, the freshman was stellar, shooting three birdies and six pars to finish the round at 2-under.
Noah Cambridge delivered a stellar first round, shooting a 67, but dropped a bit after a 76-stroke second round. The sophomore got off to an impressive start, stroking five birdies and four pars on the front nine. On the back nine, Cambridge matched a birdie with a bogey and added seven pars to finish the round at 5-under.
In round two, Cambridge shot seven pars and a birdie but added a stroke with a double bogey on hole nine. On the back nine, Cambridge tallied seven pars, but two holes over par put him at 4-over at the end of round two.
Elliot MacGregor came next for C-N, shooting a 73 and a 75 to finish the day at 4-over. MacGregor limited the damage of three bogeys on the front nine with a pair of birdies and four pars. On the back nine, MacGregor matched a pair of bogeys with two birdies and five pars to finish the round at 1-over.
In round two, MacGregor got off to a nice start with six pars and two birdies before a bogey to end the front nine. He added four strokes on the back nine with four bogeys but limited the damage with five pars to finish the round at 3-over.
Nick Daugherty rounds out the Eagles following a 74 in round one and a 79 in round two. In the first round, Daugherty started with a birdie before seven consecutive pars and a bogey to end the front nine. He added a pair of strokes with four bogeys on the back nine but limited the damage with two birdies to finish the round at 2-over.
In the second round, Daugherty had a handful of holes over par but also stroked three birdies and seven pars to finish the round at 7-over.
The Eagles will return to the Chattahoochee Golf Club tomorrow at 8 am for the final round of the UNG Mizuno Intercollegiate.
