JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Eagles men's golf team looks to close out its season on a high note at the DII Currahee Invitational in Toccoa, Georgia, on Monday and Tuesday.
C-N is coming off a 13th-place finish at the Hurricane Invitational, led by two top-25 finishes. Although a solid performance, Elliot MacGregor knows he can do more to help the Eagles in their final fall event.
"I thought I fought back well," MacGregor said. "I didn't have a good start… Coach [Wylie] helped me out to get a bit more comfortable over the ball and I started playing well. I had a really good finish to my second round, and then I didn't play too well in the last round which I am not too happy about… There's a lot of positives to take from it, but I just need to build off the first two rounds and try to get a solid third round."
MacGregor found himself in the top portion of the field after the first two rounds, but a shaky third round put him in 21st at the end of the event. Going forward, MacGregor believes consistency is the key for himself and his team.
"It's just consistency," MacGregor said. "The people winning tournaments are shooting level-par or under every time. I've had two tournaments now where I've shot level, under par, and then one bad round just kills it… I need to make sure everything is good and hope putts go in."
Playing a tough schedule with a mixture of youth and experience for the Eagles, MacGregor believes the team has done a nice job factoring the younger and older players into the mix.
"We have some pretty good freshmen," MacGregor said. "[Will] Bacon is a very good player and has a lot of potential… Stefans [Spruzs], Ian [Schoonmaker], and Owen [Larson] all have potential. It depends on them to deliver good rounds, and I am excited to see what they can do."
Coming into the final event, MacGregor knows the team needs to deliver in order to secure a higher team finish.
"Us as a team needs to do better," MacGregor said. "We have had a couple of good individual finishes, but we need to have it all together and all play well at the same time… Hopefully we can get a top-five finish in this last one and see how the spring goes."
The Eagles will send MacGregor, Nick Daugherty, Noah Cambridge, Aidan Powter, and Will Bacon to the final fall event in hopes of a good finish to the fall at the DII Currahee Invitational.
