While not the day that head coach Randy Wylie was looking for, C-N will have an opportunity to climb on day two, sitting just four strokes behind 17th place Lenoir-Rhyne.
"We have a lot of room for improvement," Wylie said. "We expect to climb the leaderboard tomorrow."
Elliot MacGregor leads the Eagles, delivering a stellar 2-under first round before shooting a 75 in round two. MacGregor was consistent on the front nine of the first round, stroking a birdie on hole one before shooting seven of the next eight holes at par. MacGregor notched three birdies to overcome a bogey on the back nine and stroked the rest of the holes at par to finish the round at 2-under.
MacGregor's second-round total moved him down in the leaderboard, but he is in a good position to climb on day two.
Noah Cambridge and Nick Daugherty sit tied for 79th following the first day of action. Cambridge delivered two similar rounds with a 3-over first and 4-over second. Daugherty stroked a 2-over first round before carding a 5-over second round to finish the day at 7-over. Like MacGregor, Cambridge and Daugherty have an opportunity to climb on day two.
Freshman Owen Larson started the day with an 82-stroke first round but bounced back with a 74 in round two to finish the day at 12-over. Larson bogeyed twice on the front nine in his second round but shot the other seven holes at par. On the back nine, Larson negated two bogeys with a pair of birdies to finish the round at 2-over.
Aidan Powter rounds out the Eagles in 95th, also showing a stellar improvement from round one to round two. Despite an 11-over first-round performance, Powter responded with a 74-stroke round two. Powter added a stroke on a double bogey on the front nine of round two and tallied two birdies to limit the damage. Powter shot par on eight of the nine holes on the back nine, adding one stroke on a bogey to finish the round at 2-over.
The Eagles will look to climb the leaderboard tomorrow at 8 AM for round three of the Bearcat Fall Invitational.
