MacGregor in Top-10, Eagles in 13th After Day One of Hurricane Invitational

Leading the way for C-N on day one is Elliot MacGregor, sitting tied for 6th at 4-under. MacGregor stroked three birdies on the front nine in round one, but four bogeys put him at 1-over entering the back nine. MacGregor was stellar on the back nine, carding two birdies and six pars to limit the damage of a late bogey and finish the round at even par.
In the second round, the senior jumped up the leaderboard with an impressive 68-stroke round. MacGregor stroked six birdies before ending the front nine with two bogeys to enter the final stretch at 4-under. He added three birdies on the back nine but had two holes over par and finished the round at 4-under.
Nick Daugherty sits in the top 20 after day one, slotting in at 15th at 1-under. On the front nine, Daugherty was consistent, stroking a birdie and eight pars to enter the back nine at 1-under. On the back nine, he dropped two strokes thanks to four birdies to overcome two bogeys to finish the round at 3-under.
In the second round, Daugherty carded seven pars on the front nine, but he had two bogeys to send him to the day's final stretch at 2-over. On the back nine, Daugherty canceled out a pair of bogeys with two birdies and the rest of the holes at par to finish the round at 2-over.
Noah Cambridge is tied for 64th after the first day of action at 8-over. Cambridge settled in after an early double bogey, stroking a birdie and six pars, but had a late bogey to enter the back nine at 2-over. Cambridge stroked the first three holes at par and birdied the next but had three consecutive bogeys before a late birdie to finish the round at 3-over.
In the second round, Cambridge started with two bogeys before a nice five-hole stretch featuring four pars and a birdie. A late bogey sent the sophomore to the final nine holes at 2-over. Despite a birdie and five holes at par, Cambridge added three strokes on the back nine with three holes over par to finish the round at 5-over.
Freshman Owen Larson finished the day tied for 72nd at 10-over. Larson's front nine featured seven pars, but two bogeys sent him to the back nine at 2-over. The freshman stroked eight pars on the back nine, but a bogey on hole 14 added a stroke to his tally to finish at 3-over.
In round two, Larson had a consistent start to the round, stroking five pars and a birdie on his first six holes. However, a costly quadruple bogey and another hole over par sent the freshman to the back nine at 4-over. Larson stroked six pars on the back nine but added three strokes on a trio of bogeys to finish the round at 7-over.
Rounding out C-N's five is Stefans Spruzs, slotting in at 79th at 16-over. In round one, the freshman settled in after two early double bogeys and stroked two birdies and the rest of the holes at par to enter the back nine at 2-over. On the back nine, Spruzs added four strokes with two bogeys and a double bogey to finish the round at 6-over.
Spruzs shot a birdie in round two, but six holes over par sent the freshman to the back nine at 6-over. On the back nine, Spruzs birdied but added four strokes on five bogeys to finish the round at 10-over.
The Eagles will look to finish the Hurricane Invitational on a high note with the third round on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
