BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A quintet of Carson-Newman distance runners will take flight this Sunday at the KMS Open in Birmingham, Alabama.
"It's been difficult trying to put together our schedule and keeping our kids motivated without a cross country season," says distance coach Luke Greer. "They're all looking forward to getting back to racing and seeing where they're at."
Rachel Strayer made her 2021 debut last week at the KMS Invitational with a fourth place finish in the women's 3000 meter run with a time of 10:49.40. Strayer is scheduled to compete in the women's mile and 5000.
A trio of Eagles will compete in the 800 meter run, as Christian Henry and Trent Lovelace will make their debut in a Carson-Newman uniform, while Raymond Brugmans will look to build off a strong start after finishing fifth in the mile at the KMS Invitational last week with a time of 4:27.29.
Madison Dockery will make her debut in the orange and blue this Sunday, competing in the 5000 meter run.
"I'm super excited to see our freshmen on the track," says Greer. "To see what they can do is really exciting and I want to see them do the best they can."
The entire Carson-Newman squad is scheduled to compete Feb. 5-6 at the Buccaneer Invitational in Johnson City.
