ROCK HILL, S.C. - Following their exceptional weekends in Johnson City, the South Atlantic Conference named Devon Moore and Joseph Oreva the Men's Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Week Award winners for week three.
Devon Moore continued his dominance in the 60 meter run, first winning the event at the Buccaneer Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 6, with a national qualifying time of 6.80 seconds. He then won the event again on Sunday at the Run As Fast As You Can Meet with a time of 6.97 seconds. Moore also won the 200 meter run at the Buccaneer Invitational with another national qualifying time of 21.59 seconds to complete the weekend sweep.
Joseph Oreva broke the school record for indoor long jump with his fifth jump of the afternoon at the Buccaneer Invitational with a distance of 7.75 meters. Unlike Larry Cooke's record of 7.60 meters that stood since 1977, Oreva needed about eight minutes to break the record again with a personal best jump of 7.84 meters. Oreva's jump moves him to number one in division two and 24th in the world. He also finished the weekend with three of the top five longest jumps in all of NCAA Track & Field for the weekend, beating out competitors from Division One powerhouses such as Oklahoma, Missouri and Florida.
The award is Oreva's first of his career, while this is Moore's third SAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week Award and his first since Feb. 18, 2020.
