CLEVELAND, Tenn. - The Carson-Newman men's 4x100 relay team set a provisional mark as the Eagles' wrapped up the regular season at the Lee Last Chance Meet.
The team of Zuriel Jimpson, Sterling Melancon, Jordan Hibbert and Devon Moore finished third with a time of 40.79 seconds, beating their best time of the year by 0.57 seconds. The mark ties Grand Valley State for 18th fastest in the nation.
"I'm extremely proud of how we competed today," says Director of Track and Field and Cross Country David Needs. "Devon running the second-fastest time in the nation plus the women's relay squad breaking the record again is exciting. But we still had a bunch of kids set new personal bests and even the athletes that maybe didn't get the marks they wanted competed to the best of their ability and you always want to see that."
Moore's day was not done as the senior from Baxley, Ga. won the 100 meter run with a time of 10.30 seconds, a mark that ties his own school record and ties Nigel Green from Southern Connecticut State for second fastest in the nation. Moore has now finished in the top-three of the 100 meter run in the past 12 races he has run, winning the event six times.

Melancon crushed his personal best in the 100 meter run by 0.14 seconds, finishing second with a time of 10.36 seconds, a mark that moves him up to seventh fastest in the nation. Melancon also placed second in the 200 meter run with a time of 21.29 seconds. The freshman from Mt. Juliet, Tenn. has now finished in the top-10 in 26 of the 27 events he has competed in this season.
Melancon is still under 18 years old, and his time ranks him ninth in the world for athletes under 18 in the 100 meter run.
"Sterling has improved so much this season," says Needs. "When you have a coach like Kieran Showler-Davis and can look up to someone like Devon, it makes it easier to improve and get better."
In the high jump, Isaiah Kyle placed second with a clearance of 2.09 meters, while Shane Connell placed third with a clearance of 2.00 meters. This is now the sixth straight meet where the Eagle high jumpers have taken at least two podium spots in the event. Danilo Cardoso finished fourth with a clearance of 1.95 meters, while Sam Cleek finished seventh, clearing 1.90 meters.
Trayzel Jureidini-Wyche placed fourth in the discus with a toss of 48.41 meters. Jureidini-Wyche has now finished in the top-five in the discus in the last seven times he has competed in the event dating back to Apr. 6, 2019 and recording three event wins.
Dequan Dudley set a personal best in the 100 meter run with a time of 11.07 seconds, while Jimpson also set a new personal best with a time of 11.10 seconds. Hibbert set a personal best in the event as well, finishing with a time of 11.12 seconds.
On the women's side, the 4x100 meter relay team of Amanda Lowe, Tia Davis, Morgan Bailey and Timaya Ray reset their own school record set earlier in the season in the event with a time of 47.32 seconds and earn a fifth-place finish.

"When you have coaches and athletes and even trainers and strength staff buy-in to the program, you can do great things," says Needs. "Our assistant coaches have done such a great job this year in not only coaching our athletes, but into knowing them at a personal level. There are so many good things about the staff we have around us here at Carson-Newman, especially in such a difficult season."
The Eagles will now prepare for the 2021 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships in Allendale, Mich. on the campus of Grand Valley State University. Day one of the championships begin on May, 27. The full participants will be announced on Monday, May, 17.
