For the fourth time in his career, Devon Moore was named SAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. - For the fourth time in his career, Devon Moore was named SAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday, Mar. 30.
Moore's honor comes after a dominating performance at the 2021 Montreat Invitational. The senior from Baxley, Ga. set two national qualifying marks in Black Mountain, winning the 100 meter run by a whopping 0.15 seconds with a time of 10.51 seconds and winning the 200 meter run with a time of 21.24 seconds.
Moore's time in the 100 meter run currently ranks him fifth in the nation, while his time in the 200 meter run ranks him fourth.
This is Moore's first SAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week award since Apr. 16, 2019. Moore won three of the six awards given during the 2019 season.
The Eagles have won four of the last 10 SAC Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week awards dating back to 2018. All four wins are by Moore. The last time a Carson-Newman men's track Eagle won a weekly honor not named Devon Moore was current sprints coach and recruiting coordinator Kieran Showler-Davis on Apr. 3, 2018.
When combining the Indoor and Outdoor conference awards, this is the eighth combined SAC Track Athlete of the Week award for Moore as he has won four Indoor and four Outdoor weekly awards. Moore was named SAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week on Feb. 9, 2021.
Moore has also earned two USTFCCCA Weekly Award honors, one for indoor and one for outdoor, his last outdoor honor coming on April 17,2019.
Since the beginning of the 2019 outdoor season, Moore has finished outside the top-three in the 100 meter or 200 meter run once, a seventh place finish in the 200 meter prelims at the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships. Moore has never finished below third in his outdoor career in the 100 meter run.
Moore and the rest of the Eagles will have the week off before heading to Cleveland, Tenn. for their final regular season meet, the Flames Invitational at Lee University on Apr. 9-10.
