Lady Eagles Survive Concord
CHARLESTON, WV-- Julie Nelson scored an unassisted goal in the 101st minute as Carson-Newman defeated Concord, 4-3 to remain undefeated in the 2006 season.
C-N (8-0) looked to put the game away early as Lindsay Farris scored 14 seconds into the match off an Erica Stegner assist. Concord evened the match with a goal in the 19th minute and the score remained 1-1 at halftime.
Rebecca Angus then scored the first of her two goals in the game at the 50th minute to give the Lady Eagles a 2-1 lead. Concord responded with two Leslie Kirk goals in the 57th and 70th minutes, respectively, to claim a 3-2 lead. The Lady Eagles received a break in the 79th minute when Concord was whistled for a foul inside the goal box. Angus scored the penalty kick and both teams entered overtime deadlocked at 3-3.
C-N outshot the Lady Lions, 5-1 in the extra period and Nelson ended the match with her second goal of the season. The Lady Eagles return to SAC play when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 2:00 p.m. match on Saturday, September 23.
