Lady Eagles Soccer Wins, 5-1
JEFFERSON CITY, TN-- The Lady Eagles scored four goals in the first half to remain unbeaten in SAC play, winning 5-1 over Presbyterian College.
Carson-Newman (7-0, 2-0) opened the scoring when Erica Stegner punched in a goal off a Brittany Moore assist to make it 1-0 Eagles in the 12th minute. The Blue Hose struck back with a corner kick goal in the 16th minute to even the game at 1-1. From there, the Lady Eagles dominated as defender Julie Nelson scored a goal from a Becky Angus assist to put C-N in the lead for good at 2-1. Angus and Stegner worked together as Angus took a Stegner cross and put it in the net for a 3-1 Eagle lead in the 24th minute. Stegner then scored on a breakaway three minutes later for a 4-1 Eagle advantage at halftime.
In the second half, the Eagle defense pitched a shutout and Shea Kinzer scored in the 50th minute to give the Eagles their seventh win of the season and a 5-1 victory. Nyssa Griffin earned the win in goal for the Lady Eagles with two saves. Erin Sinkular had 12 saves in goal for PC.
The Lady Eagles travel to Concord (WV) for a 4:00 p.m. match on Wednesday, September 20 and return to SAC play on September 23 when they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 2:00 p.m. match.
