Carson-Newman Ready for Four Days at NCAA Division II Nationals
Five members of the Carson-Newman Eagles swimming program will represent the program this week at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, beginning Tuesday at the Southern Indiana Aquatics Center in Evansville, Indiana.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Carson-Newman Eagles swimming is set to begin competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the Southern Indiana Aquatics Center in Evansville, Indiana from March 10–14. Five Eagles will represent the program on the national stage during the four-day meet.
Carson-Newman enters the championship following a standout performance at the South Atlantic Conference Championships, where several Eagles turned in career-best swims and collected multiple medals.
Leading the way for the women is sophomore Megan Corcoran, who capped her conference championship with a perfect 4-for-4 mark in gold medals and earned Female Swimmer of the Meet honors. Corcoran is scheduled to compete in the 200 IM, 400 IM, 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke during the national meet.
On the men's side, Gabriel Morales enters nationals after a dominant showing at the SAC Championships, where he claimed three gold medals, two silvers and one bronze to earn Male Swimmer of the Meet honors. Morales is entered in the 100 butterfly, 100 backstroke, 200 butterfly and 200 backstroke, while also competing as part of the Eagles' 400 freestyle relay team.
Gabriel Catapano will compete in three individual freestyle events after earning two silver medals and one bronze at the SAC Championships. Catapano is slated to race in the 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle.
The Eagles' relay lineup will feature Will Humphreys and Cody Hart alongside Morales in the 400 freestyle relay.
While the championship begins Tuesday evening, Carson-Newman will not have any swimmers competing until Wednesday's events. Corcoran could be the first Eagle in the water in the women's 200 individual medley, pending advancement through the preliminary heats earlier in the day.
