JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman swimming gears up for its midseason test as the Eagles head to the Carolina Natatorium in Columbia, S.C., for the Gamecock Invitational, beginning Tuesday night.
This marks the second straight year the Eagles will compete in the event, using the meet as a key benchmark for the season's progress.
"Coming fresh off the Emory Invite from last weekend gives us a pretty good idea of where everyone stands," said head coach Ben Young. "After suiting up last week, we feel very confident heading into these next four days. It's a long meet, but it's a great dress rehearsal for the conference, so we're excited and well-prepared."
No. 15 South Carolina hosts a deep and competitive field featuring No. 21 North Carolina, Tampa, Florida Southern, Carson-Newman, East Carolina, North Florida, Georgia Southern, and Savannah College of Art and Design.
"This is a big, fast meet with a 10-lane pool, so the top 30 men and top 40 women return at night," Young noted. "We always want to race the best in the nation—Division I or Division II. For us, it's about recognizing where we are and what we want to accomplish at this point in the season."
Admission is free for all sessions, with doors opening one hour before competition. A clear bag policy will be in effect, and spectators must remain in the upstairs gallery, as pool deck access is restricted.
