Eagles Make A Splash At Emory Invitational
Multiple swimmers shine as Carson-Newman continues to build momentum heading into day two of the Emory Invitational on Saturday morning
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman swimming competed at the Emory Invitational over a two-day meet at the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga., from Friday, Nov. 7, through Saturday, Nov. 8.
The Eagles made their fifth consecutive trip to the Emory Invitational, a meet where both the men's and women's teams have consistently performed well. Coming off a dominant showing at Mars Hill in October, the team continued to build momentum and demonstrated midseason form in the pool.
"This is the first time that the conversation on day one is not, 'Why did we start flat, or how do we not start flat moving forward?'" said head coach Ben Young. "Today was fantastic as far as the team coming together after a chaotic past few days and traveling for the majority of the day. It was really nice to see the team get up and swim at a high level."
Multiple Eagles came off the blocks quickly, earning several podium placements from both the men's and women's squads.
"Megan Corcoran swam very well in her two-back, and really all of our backstrokers had fantastic races," Young said. "Emma Bowling absolutely crushed her relay split and her 100-free individual and relay at the end of the day. It was reassuring to see how we were able to approach the meet and, more so, that our depth is growing and the top end of our team continues to perform really well."
Carson-Newman also saw multiple newcomers make waves in the pool, helping build team depth and competing with other nationally ranked squads such as Emory and Wingate.
"We have so many people like Karstyn Weintz, Jack Hebert, Cody Hart, Andrew Groves—the list goes on—as far as people swimming extremely well," Young stated. "We had a big incoming class from 2023, and we're very young. If you look at the other teams out there, a lot of their depth comes from older swimmers. So to know that we're so young and have room to grow is very reassuring."
The Eagles return to the Madeleine Jude Brown Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga., beginning at 11:00 a.m. for day two of the Emory Invitational.
"I'm excited for day two and to see where we go from here going into midseason," said Young.
