Hall named semifinalist for 2016 Nicklaus Award
NORMAN, Okla. – Carson-Newman senior Andrew Hall was named a semifinalist for the 2016 Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award presented by Barbasol, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Friday afternoon.

The Nicklaus Award recognizes the top players at the Division I, II, III, NAIA and NJCAA levels.
Finalists for Division III will be named at the GCAA Division III National Awards Banquet on May 10 and Division II on May 12. Nicklaus Award recipients will be announced June 2 with the honor presented by Jack Nicklaus at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
This season, Hall (Knoxville, Tenn.) has played 28 rounds and has a scoring average of 72.4 strokes. At the Saint Leo's Men's Invitational, the senior reset the South Atlantic Conference record for lowest three-round score with a total of 14-under 202. He tied his conference best mark the following week at the University of North Georgia Fall Invitational and won the tournament's individual medalist accolade. Last week, the Knoxville, Tenn. native was named a member of the SAC's first team.
In addition to receiving the Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award, the five recipients will compete in the Barbasol Shootout for an exemption into the PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship, held July 14-17, at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail at Grand National in Opelika, Ala. The Barbasol Shootout will be held Saturday, June 4 at the storied Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio - the same club where Jack Nicklaus learned the game of golf as a young boy.
Since 1988, the award for the GCAA Collegiate Players of the Year have been named after Jack Nicklaus, a Big Ten and NCAA Champion and GCAA All-American at The Ohio State University. Winners of the Nicklaus Award include Tiger Woods (1996), Phil Mickelson (1990-92), David Duval (1993), Justin Leonard (1994), Stewart Cink (1995), Luke Donald (1999), Hunter Mahan (2003), Bill Haas (2004), Ryan Moore (2005) and Justin Thomas (2012) among many others. Award recipients have combined for over 200 victories worldwide and claimed 22 major championships
Hall is one of three SAC student-athletes named as a semifinalist; he was joined by Lincoln Memorial's Sam Broadhurst and Brad Hawkins from Tusculum.
