Carson-Newman football ranked 18th in final AFCA Poll

JEFFERSON CITY - The Carson-Newman football team is ranked 18th in the final American Football Coaches Association Division II Poll announced officials Tuesday.
The Eagles went 7-4 in 2008 and claimed a share of the South Atlantic Conference championship. Carson-Newman fell to Valdosta State in the opening rounf of the NCAA Division II playoffs.
Minnesota-Duluth is ranked first after finishing a perfect 15-0 season with a 21-14 win over Northwest Missouri State in the national championship game this past Saturday.
Northwest Missouri State finished second in the poll, followed by North Alabama, Grand Valley State and Abilene Christian.
Tusculum is the highest ranked SAC team in the final poll, coming in 16th. Wingate, Newberry and Mars Hill didn't make the Top 25, but received votes.
