Carson-Newman moves up to No. 18 in AFCA poll

JEFFERSON CITY - The Carson-Newman football team jumped three spots to No. 18 in the lastest American Football Coaches Association Division II Coaches' Poll, realeased Tuesday morning.
The Eagles (4-2, 2-1 SAC) went on the road to defeat conference rival Catawba 21-14 Saturday. They are the highgest ranked two-loss team in the poll.
Grand Valley St. received 19 first-place votes to hold down the top spot for the second consecutive week. North Alabama, Abilene Christian, West Texas A&M and Northwest Missouri St. round out the top five.
The top 15 in the rankings were all victorious over the wewekkend, leaving the upper half of the poll virtually unchanged except for a tie for 13th betwewen Chadron St. and Pittsburg St., who were 13th and 14th last week, respectively.
Wingate (7-0, 3-0 SAC) is No. 15 and is the only other South Atlantic Conference school represented in the top 25. Newberry, who was No. 25 last week, dropped out after a loss to Mars Hill.
