Wakefield Named SAC Player of the Week

ROCK HILL, S.C. --- Carson-Newman running back Buck Wakefield has been named the South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, conference officials announced today.
Wakefield, a 5-9 junior from Drummonds, Tenn., rushed for a season-best 223 yards on 20 carries, including four touchdowns in Carson-Newman's 35-33 come-from-behind win over 16th-ranked Wingate. With the victory, the 15th-ranked Eagles claim at least a share of the program's 20th SAC title. His final touchdown of the day was a 70-yarder, which proved to be the game-winner.
The Munford High School graduate also scored on a two-point conversion and caught two passes for 19 yards in C-N's fifth straight win of the season.
Wakefield's 223 yards were the most by an Eagle since '04 ,when Rayvon Howard rushed for 229 yards on 13 carries in a 41-10 win over Wingate.
Tusculum linebacker Justin Scott took SAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, while Catawba defensive back Terrence Jones was named the SAC Special Teams Player of the Week.
The South Atlantic Conference Football Players of the Week are selected by a vote of the league's sports information directors.
