Eagles fall at L-R, 3-1

Hickory, N.C. - The Lenoir-Rhyne College Baseball Team (33-12, 12-8) defeated Carson-Newman College (26-17, 14-6), 3-1, Saturday afternoon in the final game of a South Atlantic Conference series between the two squads at Bears Field.
L-R freshman Chris Henderson (Lincolnton, N.C./West Lincoln HS) remained undefeated on the year at 5-0 after limiting Carson-Newman to one unearned run in 8.2 innings pitched to go along with seven strikeouts.
With the score tied at one in the bottom of the eighth inning, senior first baseman Jordan Ackley (Walnut Cove, N.C./South Stokes HS) delivered the game-winning, two-run single for the Bears.
The Eagles took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on an RBI single by Jason Gray (Rutledge, Tenn.) before the Bears tied it on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fifth.
The scored remained one-all until Ackley's heroics in the eighth inning.
Bear freshman Kurt Benton (Stanfield, N.C./West Stanly HS) picked up his second save of the year while Michael Elliott (Chattanooga, Tenn.) fell to 2-2 with the loss for the Eagles.
