Eagles See Lead Slip Away at UAH, 72-68

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers held Carson-Newman to a season-low 68 points, to drop the Eagles 72-68 in Spragins Hall on Wednesday night.
Carson-Newman (4-7) shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the floor, but committed 23 turnovers to drop its third consecutive game.
The Eagles would take an eight-point lead into the locker, leading 35-27 at the half.
C-N would extend its lead to 11 points, its largest of the game, at 50-39 with 12:10 to play, but the Chargers answered with a 7-0 run to cut the Eagle lead to four.
UAH's Josh Magette knocked down one of his four threes on the night to key the spurt. He finished 4-of-5 from behind the arc, and led all scorers with 16 points. UAH would extend its run to 15-3 to take a 54-53 lead.
The Eagles answered with a 9-1 run to grab a 62-55 lead. Junior Darron Maxtion (Huntsville, Ala.), playing in his hometown, had three buckets during the stretch. He finished with 14 points to lead the Eagles. No other Eagle reached double figures.
C-N outrebounded UAH 40-30 on the evening, but committed 23 turnovers, while forcing only nine.
The Eagles will break for Christmas beginning on Thursday. C-N returns to action on December 31 in Dahlonega, Ga. against North Georgia College and State University. Tipoff is at 4 p.m.
