Eagles Bounce Back To Beat King, 95-82
Jan. 2, 2008
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - In a new year, Carson-Newman looked like a new basketball team.
The Eagles used a 23-8 second half run beat King College Wednesday night in Holt Fieldhouse, 95-82.
Seniors Scott Williams (Macon, Ga.) and Andy Tipton (Maryville, Tenn.) each had 20 points in the win. Tipton had a double-double, adding 10 rebounds.
Carson-Newman (7-2) bounced back from its worst performance of the season. King dropped the Eagles, 102-68 on December 17th, but struggled defensively in the second half this time around.
The Eagles finished 20-of-28 from the floor in the second half, knocking down 12-of-14 shots during their decisive run, one powered by Williams.
The Preseason All-SAC selection split two defenders for a transition layup, after point guard Jordan Dixon (Clinton, Tenn.) to push the Eagles out by a bucket at 67-65. After a quick miss by King's Ben Bosse, he knocked down a three-point jumper to push the Eagles' lead to five. C-N would not trail again.
Torrington Cox led the Tornado with 26 points. Mark Dockery added 13.
Junior Andrew Johnson (Cairo, Ga.) added 13 for the Eagles. Dixon had nine assists.
Carson-Newman opens its South Atlantic Conference home season Saturday, when it hosts Newberry. Tip-off for the doubleheader is at 6 p.m.
