Strong first half powers Eagles to win over West Alabama

GREENEVILLE, TENN. - Carson-Newman sprinted out to 59 points in the first half and never looked back, cruising to a 109-93 victory over West Alabama in the Pioneer Classic at Tusculum.
Joey Cameron (Tuskegee, Ala.) scored 21 points to lead the Carson-Newman attack, followed by Andrew Johnson (Cairo, Ga.) with 19. Jesse McMurray (Weber City, Va.) and Adam Plavich (Dalton, Ga.) contributed 15 and 12 points, respectively.
The Eagles (3-3) shot 49.3 percent from the field for the game, including 12-of-32 from three-point range. West Alabama was 53.2 percent shooting (8-of-16 from three), and held a 41-33 advantage in rebounding. Carson-Newman made the difference up on the defensive end, forcing 28 turnovers while committing just 13.
West Alabama (2-3) had four players reach double figures in scoring, led by Jason Swanson with 16. Jonathan Griffin and Jamaine Nance each had 13 points, while Chris Davis chipped in 12.
Carson-Newman will return home Wednesday to host Maryville College at 8 p.m.
