Five Lady Eagles Named to All-SAC Tournament Team, Templeton Takes MVP

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman junior pitcher Stephanie Templeton, who won three games and threw a four-hit shutout in the championship game, has been named Most Valuable Player of the 2009 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Softball Tournament, league officials announced today.
Templeton (Ringgold, Ga./Ringgold HS) allowed five runs in 24.1 innings of work during the tournament, including a pair of shutouts. She also hit .429 with a home run and four RBI.
She was one of five Carson-Newman players named to the All-Tournament team. She was joined by Jessie Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.), Sarah Little (Ringgold, Ga.), Amber Palmer (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Whitney Durham (Rossville, Ga.).
Little had both RBIs in the championship game, both of which were runs scored by Howard. Pamler added two key doubles in Saturday's 10-7 win over Catawba, while Durham had five hits and a pair of multiple-hit games for the tournament.
Tournament runner-up Wingate University had four selections to the All-Tournament team. Junior Debra Grijalva, who batted .692 with 10 RBI in six tournament games, was joined by pitchers Brittany Blankenship and Allison Smith and shortstop Julie Broyer.
Lenoir-Rhyne University's Sarah Atkins, who hit .545 with three home runs and Catawba College's Ryann Baker, who hit .385 and had 13 total bases, round out the All-Tournament Team.
The Food Lion SAC Softball All-Tournament Team is selected by a vote of the league's nine schools head coaches and sports information directors.
