ROCK HILL, S.C. - Carson-Newman shortstop Jessie Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.) has been named the South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, league officials announced Monday.
Howard batted .357 (5-for-14) for the week in leading C-N to a 4-0 record with sweeps of Tusculum and Newberry. The junior came through with a pair of bases-loaded hits against Newberry to spark the Lady Eagles. She delivered a two-out, two-run single in 4-1 win in game one. She followed with a bases-clearing double in a 7-2 win in game two.
The Knoxville, Tenn. native added an inside-the-park home run and a two-run triple in an 11-3 win against Tusculum on Wednesday. She also 4-for-4 on sloten bases during the week.
Howard joins freshman Mary Shealy (Clinton, S.C.) as the second Lady Eagle to be named SAC Player of the Week honors this season. Shealy earned the award back on February 10.
Catawba's Chelsea Wallace (Danville, Ky.) took SAC pitcher of the week honors after allowing six total hits in wins over Mars Hill and Catawba.
The SAC Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week are selected by a vote of the league's nine sports information directors.
