Lady Eagles sweep North Greenville, Bellarmine doubleheader moved to Sunday

Scheduling Note: Carson-Newman's softball doubleheader with Bellarmine University scheduled for Saturday afternoon has been moved to Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at the Lady Eagle Softball Complex.
TIGERVILLE, S.C. - Junior Sarah Little's (Calhoun, Ga.) eighth-inning single scored Jessie Howard (Knoxville, Tenn.) as the Carson-Newman Lady Eagles held off North Greenville University 4-3 in Game 2 of a softball doubleheader Friday afternoon. C-N cruised past the Crusaders in the first game, 9-0.
With the wins, Carson-Newman improves to 5-1 on the season, while NGU falls to 0-2 to open its season.
Game 1: Carson-Newman 9, North Greenville 0 (6)
The Lady Eagles plated six runs in the top of the first inning to quickly put Game 1 out of reach.
Howard, Amber Hewitt (Ringgold, Ga.), and Whitney Durham (Rossville, Ga.) each scored twice as the C-N pounded out nine hits and took advantage of three NGU errors in the win.
Starter Mary Shealy (Clinton, S.C.) allowed just two hits, while striking out six to pick up her fourth win. She also had a double and two RBIs in a 2-for-4 effort from the plate.
Howard added two stolen bases.
Game 2: Carson-Newman 4, North Greenville 3 (8)
C-N had two of its three hits in the top of the eighth to slide by with a 4-3 win and a sweep.
Howard singled to lead off the inning, scoring Leah Price (Spring City, Tenn.), who had been placed on second for the tiebreaker. She would steal second for her third stolen base of the day, before scoring on Little's drive down the right-field line plated her with the winning run.
Shealy again picked up the win, moving to 5-1 on the year. She allowed five hits and one earned run in eight innings of work.
C-N returns to action on Sunday when it hosts Bellarmine University at 12:30 p.m. at the Lady Eagle Softball Complex.
