Lady Eagles, skydivers return to McCown Field
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Carson-Newman (1-3) women’s soccer team takes the pitch tomorrow at 5 p.m. against King (4-0).
C-N is currently undefeated this season on its home turf with a 1-0 win over Young Harris last Wednesday. Senior Maleya Garrison (Hendersonville, Tenn.) scored the goal off a through ball fed by junior Mikayla Gregg (Newport, Tenn.).
Saturday brought a 1-0 loss for the Eagles when play was cut four minutes short due to lightning at Wingate.
King has two wins against C-N fellow SAC members Brevard and Mars Hill. The Tornados toppled Brevard 5-0; Rachel Thorpe provided a hat trick and Miranda Smith put up two.
Smith assisted Catherine Walsh for King's 1-0 victory against Mars Hill.
Last season, C-N went undefeated against King, Mars Hill and Brevard. This year senior Susann Kneifel (Germany) contributed a goal and an assist in the Eagles' 3-1 victory at King. Danna Stringle (Canada) and Sam Thomsit (England), both since graduated, scored the first and second goal of that match respectively.
There will be a tailgate starting at 4 p.m. with hotdogs and pizza in the parking lot behind the MSAC next to McCown Field. The dorm hall with the most attendees will receive a free pizza.
The women's match will kick off at 5 p.m. The men's match will follow at 7:30 p.m. Around 7 p.m., skydivers from Skydive East Tennessee will be jumping from a plane and landing on McCown Field. Watch or follow live stats at http://portal.stretchinternet.com/cneagles/.
