9th place finish wraps up fall season for men’s golf
The Eagles fell two places from the 2nd round, but had three golfers finish inside the top 40.
NINETY SIX, S.C.- The Eagles fell two places from the 2nd round, but had three golfers finish inside the top 40.
With a score of +17 as a team, men's golf finished the Patriot Fall Classic at six-over par in the final round. The team field was won by Wingate, who put together an incredible three-round total of thirty under. Two of the Bulldogs golfers tied for first, both at 11-under.
The Eagles' best finisher was Theo Baker, who ended his strong fall with a 36-hole total at one under. Baker made four birdies on the day, including back-to-back red numbers on the 13th and 14th, to shoot 35 (-1) coming in. With a few bogeys as well, Baker wrapped up his final round with a 72 (E) and slotted in 19th in the 112-player field.
Dylan Frein had the next best final round with a 73 (+1). Frein had a clean front nine with one birdie and eight pars for a 35 (-1) going out. Frein found some bogey trouble on the back, though, with bogeys on the 10th, 11th, 14th, and 15th holes. He made birdie on the 13th and 18th to help himself and would shoot 38 (+2) on the back. Frein was +4 on the week and finished 36th.
Brady Wentz was also in the top 30 for Carson-Newman. The junior birdied the par-four 11th and would bounce back from a bogey at the 17th to birdie the par 5 18th. He was one of four Eagles to birdie the 18th hole. Wentz ended his final round with a 74 (+2) and landed a three-day total at two over. Wentz was 29th overall.
Ian Schoolmaker shot his best round of the tournament with a 75 (+3) in the final round. Schoonmaker's three birdies on the day helped him jump 12 spots on the leaderboard to land 75th. His three-round total was +12.
The individual performer Stefans Spruzs also had his best round of the tournament. Spruzs made just one birdie on the par five 8th to shoot a 74 (+2) and move up 13 spots on the leaderboard to ultimately end in 87th. His three-round total was +15.
Aidan Collier rounded out the Eagles fall season with a 79 (+7) and would end at +22 over the three rounds.
This marks the end of the fall slate for Carson-Newman men's golf. They will take a few months' hiatus before returning in the spring for their championship season. The Eagles end the fall 63rd in the Clippd rankings.
