FINDLAY, Ohio. – Carson-Newman caught fire in the final holes of the second 18 to shoot a team-best score of even-par and sits just outside the top five.
"We had a really solid day today, especially with the finish to the second round despite the struggle in the middle of it, but finished strong with several birdies and an eagle," said head coach Randy Wylie. "The whole team contributed.
Dylan Frein continued producing for C-N today, opening the Doc Spragg with a 70 (-2) in round one. The freshman started strong with a birdie on his first hole of the day, and would card three more birdies to shoot his second round of the season under par in the first 18.
Frein faced some adversity in the second round, though, with three bogeys in his first ten holes. The Florida native battled toward the end of the round, birdying the par-five 15th and both holes one and two. He finished his second round with a 71 (-1) to record a two-round total of -3. Frein sits three back of the leader.
Theo Baker was the next best for C-N. Baker bogeyed two of his first three holes but quickly recovered with a birdie at the par-four 8th. A few more bogeys in the final holes of round one would slot the junior at 74 (+2). Baker swiftly turned his luck, though. After kicking off his second round with a bogey at the 5th, Baker birdied the 14th and 15th and caught fire on the 18th, recording five straight birdies to end the round and shoot 70 (-2).
Playing his final nine holes of the day at six-under, Baker's two-round total at even par is good for 19th in the field.
"Five bridies in a row for Theo today was a real proud moment. I was so proud to see his comeback after a tough start in his afternoon round," said Wylie.
Aidan Collier followed the two leaders for the Eagles with a 73 (+1) in round one. Collier made two birdies on the back nine on the par-four 10th and par-five 15th to shoot 34 coming in. He kicked off his second round with a birdie at the par-five 4th and was three under through his first five holes. Larson is +10 overall and 74th in the field.

"We are trying to keep operating one shot at ta time and staying with our game plan," said Wylie. "On this course, you must hit fairways and keep the ball below the hole because the greens are super fast and sloped."
Carson-Newman tees off tomorrow at 9:00 AM at Findlay Country Club for their final 18 holes of the Doc Spragg. The Eagles will begin on holes 4 through 6 ad live scoring will be available on Clippd.
