Collier holds solo first and Eagles beat two top-five teams in day one of Hurricane Invitational

ALBANY, Ga. – With a two-round total at five-under, Collier holds a one-stroke lead over the next competitor while the Eagles team sits solo 7th above #3 North Georgia and #4 Lincoln Memorial.
It was a great start to the week for the Eagles golf team, finishing at +9 as a team in round one. Just a few strokes back of the major competition in the field, the Carson-Newman golfers strung together four rounds in the 70s and currently own four spots of the top 30.
Aiden Collier headlined the day for the Eagles, shooting a team-best four-under in round one. The sophomore transfer from Lipscomb carded three birdies on the front to go out with a 33 (-3), birdied every one of the par fives, and made three bogeys. The individual for the Eagles is followed closely in standings by nine other golfers who are under par.
Dylan Frein and Theo Baker put together rounds of even par in the first 18 holes. Both golfers were under par on the back nine and offset their bogeys on the front to come in at even. Frein birdied his first hole and fourteenth hole (15 & 10), but also made two bogeys on the day. Baker birdied the 17th and 18th hole to shoot 34 on the back nine of the scorecard and made two bogeys on the front to come in at even.
Brady Wentz was the next best in round one. The junior bogeyed two of his first three holes, but made three birdies on the par-four third, par-four tenth, and par-five 15th to finish the day at 75.
Owen Larson was the other golfer in the 70's in round one, coming in at +6, 78. Larson carded twelve pars throughout the day with no bogeys. Will Bacon followed him with an 84. Bacon made one birdie on the par-four ninth.
Round two was even better shooting for the Eagles, combining for a +3 team score. Dylan Frein was the best for the Eagles yet again, with a -2, 70 in the second round. Frein started his second round with three birdies in his first four holes, and would birdie three straight from hole five to hole seven. Frein currently sits in 5th place at -2.
Brady Wentz and Owen Larson both improved in their second round, notching three birdies apiece and matching each other's splits with a 36 on the front and 37 on the back. Wentz is currently four over through 36 holes and sits 28th overall, while Larson is +7 and 46th overall.
Aidan Collier added to his phenomenal first round, shooting one-under 71 in round two. Collier was -3 through 11 holes and would bogey four of his last seven to come in at one-under. He holds the solo lead at -5.
Theo Baker also contributed to the team score, carding a 75 in round two. Baker made just one birdie on hole 13 to land 21st overall.
Will Bacon also ended the day on a positive note, with three birdies in his final round that would help him notch a solid 75. Bacon was +15 across the two rounds and sits 77th overall.
The Eagles tee off at 8:30 AM tomorrow with live scoring available on the Clippd website for the final 18 holes.
