JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.- Carson-Newman head men's golf coach Randy Wylie has confirmed his team's 2023 fall slate, one which presents a handful of new courses.
"We have a fantastic schedule," Coach Wylie said. "We're excited about the schedule in general because we know with the sites we're playing at, we're going to be playing the very best teams in the country."
The Eagles kick off their fall season on September 18th and 19th, traveling to Gainesville, Georgia to compete in the Mizuno Intercollegiate at the Chattahoochee Golf Club. This will mark the first time C-N has competed in the event.
On October 2nd and 3rd, the Eagles travel to another unfamiliar course in Harwell, Georgia to compete in the 2023 Cateechee Fall Invitational at the Cateechee Golf Club. C-N will be making their debut at a course for the second time in as many trips to the state of Georgia.
Some familiarity comes when the Eagles take the trip to Albany, Georgia for the Hurricane Invitational at Doublegate Country Club. C-N has traveled to this event each of the past two seasons, tying for 6th place last season and placing 3rd the year prior. In the previous two years, the event took place in the spring.
"A golf course can look quite different in October than in February," Wylie said. "We're thinking that's going to be a new experience too. We know the golf course and the greens, but we know the course will play quite different."
To round out the Eagles' fall slate, they will head to the sunshine state on October 23rd and 24th for the 2023 Copperhead Championship in North Palm, Florida at Innisbrook Resort. Innisbrook presents a course that was featured on the PGA Tour.
"It's one of the most iconic courses in the country," Wylie said. "It's nice to be playing at a course at that level. All the kids are super excited that we got the invite to that tournament.
The fall schedule presents a plethora of challenges at courses that the Eagles haven't seen before, but coach Wylie sees it as a good test for an experienced group.
"I'm interested to see how we progress as a team," Coach Wylie said. "We lost a couple of top players but we have a really experienced group coming back. If we take a couple of strides forward, we can be really competitive and be one of the better teams in the country."
While losing some valuable production, the Eagles return a seasoned team. Leading the returners is junior Luke Stock, whose 72.3 scoring average was the second-lowest on the team. Junior Elliot MacGregor also returns after competing in 28-of-30 rounds in the 2022-23 campaign with a 74.2 scoring average.
Each event throughout the fall season will be followed up with a recap and results on cneagles.com.
