Carson-Newman's Sanders named to SAC All-Freshman Team
ROCK HILL, S.C. — Carson-Newman freshman guard Ishmael Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.) was named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Freshman Team, league officials announced Friday.
ROCK HILL, S.C. — Carson-Newman freshman guard Ishmael Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.) was named to the South Atlantic Conference All-Freshman Team, league officials announced Friday.
Sanders led the Eagles in scoring with an average of 13.4 points per game. He was also second on the team in assists with 54 and third in steals with 33. He led the conference in 3-pointers made per game with an average of 2.78.
Sanders set the SAC scoring record on Feb. 16 with a 51-point effort in a win over Mars Hill. He also broke the school record for 3-point field goals made in a game against the Lions with 11.
Junior guard Bradley Tumer (Mt. Dora, Fla.) finished the regular season as the conference leader in assists with an average 6.24 assists per game.
Lincoln Memorial junior forward Desmond Johnson and head coach Josh Schertz were named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year, respectively, while Catawba's Keon Moore was selected Freshman of the Year. Anderson's Nick Trull received SAC Scholar-Athlete honors.
The 2011 Food Lion SAC semifinals are Saturday at Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, N.C. The men's award winners will be recognized after the 5:30 p.m. game between Lincoln Memorial and Tusculum.
The championship games are set for Sunday. The tournament winner receives an automatic bid into the NCAA Division II National Championship Tournament.
