Eagles Pull Away From Hiawasse, 95-75, as Benson Picks Up First C-N Win
HARROGATE, Tenn. – Carson-Newman head coach Chuck Benson picked up his first career win at C-N as the Eagles downed Hiawasse College, 95-75, on Friday night at the 2010 Lincoln Memorial Classic.
The Eagles improve to 1-3 on the season and take on Union (Ky.) today at 2 p.m. at Tex Turner Arena.
The win is the first for the Eagles' new head coach, who was hired in June and in his first season at his alma mater.
Junior forward John Holleman (St. Petersburg, Va.) led the Eagles with a C-N season high 32 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor. He also had a team-high 14 boards for his first career double-double.
Carson-Newman led by only one with 8:57 to play in the game, 62-61, but broke open the game with a 20-6 run to put things quickly out of reach.
Freshman Ishmael Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.) and sophomore Collin Crane (Knoxville, Tenn.) each added double figures for the Eagles, with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Zack Williams led Hiawasse with 34 points.
