With the loss, the Eagles fall to 2-5 on the season and 0-1 in the conference, while Catawba improves to 3-3 and 1-0 in SAC play.
C-N shot 46.4 percent from the floor (26-of-56) to Catawba's 41.5 percent (27-of-65), but the Indians dominated the glass, outrebounding the Eagles 50-27 with 19 rebounds on the offensive end.
Senior center Brandon Evans (Salem, Va.) scored 10 points, pulled down five rebounds and tallied five blocks to lead the Eagles, while sophomore Collin Crane (Knoxville, Tenn.) added 10 points. Kevin Leatherwood (Charlottesville, Va.) and Ishmael Sanders (Cleveland, Tenn.) pitched in nine and eight points, respectively.
Lee Martin netted 12 points to lead five Indians in double figures, while Stuart Thomson, Cameron Lovelace, Chris Tyree and Keon Moore each had 10 points in the win.
The Eagles return to the hardwood at home on Monday against Wingate. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. at Holt Fieldhouse.
