JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman (16-8, 12-6 SAC) will look to break out of a four-game skid when it plays host to Emory & Henry (6-18, 4-14 SAC) on Wednesday evening at 5:30 p.m.
Despite having its second-highest turnover game of the season this past Saturday, C-N still leads the conference in assists per game and assist to turnover ratio. They rank sixth and ninth nationally in those two categories.
Mattie Nuckolls (Chatsworth, Ga.) has anchored the back end of C-N's defense all season. After recording four more blocks on Saturday, the junior forward now leads the conference in blocks with 51. She has nine games this year with at least three blocks including back-to-back. For her career, she has 99 blocks and is 19 away from moving into the top seven in program history. Nuckolls' presence has helped C-N leads the SAC in blocks per game, averaging 5.6 per game which is fifth nationally.
In 55 career games with C-N, Jennifer Sullivan has made 124 three-pointers, the 12th-most in program history and just six away from moving into the top ten. To reach that mark, she has done so on superb efficiency. Sullivan's 40.1 career three-point percentage is third-best all-time in program history. This season, she has drilled 63 triples which is the second-most in the league.
Carson-Newman is undefeated in eight all-time meetings with Emory & Henry. The Lady Eagles have scored 70 points or more in each win and have won by double digits in seven of the eight wins. Earlier this semester, C-N crushed E&H 105-63, its second-highest scoring game of the season. Five players scored in double figures in the 42-point victory.
Emory & Henry will be battling for its postseason lives with four regular season games left. The Wasps are 4-14 in SAC play this season, three games out of a tie for the final two spots in the conference tournament. They are chasing Anderson, Catawba and Newberry who are all tied in seventh-place at 7-11. Overall, E&H is 6-18 this season.
Despite the record, E&H has been playing solid basketball in February. They are 2-2 this month, with the wins coming against Mars Hill and UVA Wise. The losses are by single digits to Catawba and Newberry.
The injury bug has hurt the Wasps this season. Three of their top players by scoring average have combined to play just 10 minutes in the spring semester. Hali Harris and Rhyan Harris have taken control of E&H's offense, both averaging just under 10 points per game. Both have scored better than that in conference games.
The Wasps rank right behind C-N in assists averaging 15 per game. Dot Mills leads the team with 76 and ranks top ten in the SAC as well.
Tip off with the Wasps is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 5:15 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live. A live camera of the broadcast crew "On Press Row" will also be available on YouTube.
