JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman women's basketball's winningest coach eyes career win 300 as the Lady Eagles (12-4, 8-2 SAC) take on Mars Hill (4-12, 1-9 SAC) Wednesday at Stanford Arena.
Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey gets his first opportunity to collect career win 300 on Wednesday at Mars Hill. The second-winningest coach in SAC history has 299 career wins as he continues through his 15th season. Only Wingate's Johnny Jacumin has more wins than Mincey in SAC history, winning 394 games with the Bulldogs from 1989-2007. Mincey, the winningest coach in conference games with 209, ranks fifth all-time in SAC history with a career .694 winning percentage.
Jennifer Sullivan's career day against #20 Lincoln Memorial helped the senior guard win South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week honors. For the week, the senior guard averaged 22.5 points, four assists and two assists per game. Impressively, she made 45 percent of her three-pointers, going nine for 20 in the two games.
Sullivan's sharpshooting has been on full display over the past two years. She has made 105 three-pointers in a C-N uniform, 14th all-time in program history. She is 25 triples away from breaking into the top ten. Her 105 three-pointers have come on an elite 41.3 percentage, which is currently the second-highest mark in program history.
The Lady Eagles head to a place on Wednesday that has not been friendly the past three seasons. They have lost their past three games in Stanford Arena, tied for the longest in the 43-year series history with MHU. All three losses have come by single-digits and have seen C-N not score more than 65 points with an average shooting percentage of 37 percent.
"Regardless of what their record is, I guarantee you that they will play hard," Mincey said. "It's a home game for them and we haven't won there in three years. Are we going to be able to get the demons out of our head because of what has happened there the past three years and go and play good basketball."
After Emry Tsitouris took the Lenoir-Rhyne job, Mars Hill hired NaJarius Green as her replacement in late June. Green comes to Mars Hill after serving as head women's basketball coach at Columbia College since 2022. While at Columbia, he led the program to the most single season wins in their program's history as well as their first ever AAC Tournament appearance and win. Green is the winningest coach in program history and was named the Columbia College Coach of the Year two times.
In his first season with the Lions, they are 4-12 and enter Wednesday's game having lost nine straight contests. The nine-game losing streak has come during league play and is the second-longest active losing streak in the Southeast region. Only one of the nine losses has come by single digits. During this stretch, the Lions are being outscored by 25 points on average and are allowing 86 points per game.
Makayla Street and Adrianna Gullette are the team's leading scorers at 11 points per game. Street makes 41 precent of her shots and has eight double figure scoring days. Gullette has 11 double-figure scoring games including six in SAC play.
Tip off with the Lions is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Coverage on the Eagle Sports Network begins at 5:15 with the AEC Countdown to Tipoff on Mix 105.5 (WSEV-FM, Sevierville) and online at cneagles.com/live.
