Markus Women Play Ball NCAA DII Athlete of the Week
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – Carson-Newman senior Chante’ Markus (Hummelstown, Pa.), has been named the NCAA Division II Athlete of the Week by Women Play Ball magazine, announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Markus averaged 14 points in Carson-Newman's victories over Brevard and Coker, and she is the first Lady Eagle to earn national recognition this season.
"We're proud of Chante' and what she's done this year," said Carson-Newman head coach Mike Mincey. "Anytime one of our players can be acknowledged, it's certainly a positive for not only her but for our program as well."
Against Brevard last Wednesday, Markus scored 13 points and was 5-for-10 shooting from the field, helping the Lady Eagles win 105-82.
Markus followed that performance by leading Carson-Newman with 15 points in Saturday's 74-56 win over Coker. Markus was 5-for-7 shooting from the field and hit a pair of 3-pointers in the win as Carson-Newman remained atop the South Atlantic Conference standings by improving to 8-2 in conference play.
Markus has scored in double-figures in 11 of Carson-Newman's 16 games, and has led the Lady Eagles in scoring five times.
She is second on the team in scoring by averaging 11.3 points per game and she is averaging 11.8 points per game in conference play.

Carson-Newman will next play on the road at Tusculum on Wednesday night, with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
