JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – This is the fourth and final review breaking down the 2014 Carson-Newman men's soccer team position by position. Today's review focuses on the Eagles' goalkeepers.
The Eagles' go into this fall less the All-SAC and All-Southeast Region first team goalkeeper selection and team captain Rumwald Le Guevel (Vannes, France). He ended regular season second in the SAC in both saves and save percentage with 73 and .793 respectively.
Le Guevel saved two penalty kicks in a shootout against Lander in the Southeast Region finals to advance his team to the Elite Eight.
Despite the huge loss in Le Guevel, the Lads sit five deep in the goalie position this season.
Senior Nick Martin (Russellville, Tenn.) returns for the Lads after playing in three matches last season. When Le Guevel came out against Mars Hill in the first round of the SAC tournament, Martin filled in and saved all four shots faced.
Martin proceeded to play all 90 minutes of the following 3-2 victory over SAC opponent Anderson in the first round of the Southeast Region tournament.
Also returning to the net for the Eagles are sophomore Samuel Hayes and junior Micah Varner.
