C-N Women's Golf Makes Debut This Weekend in Pfeiffer Invitational

JEFFERSON CITY, TENN. - The Carson-Newman women's golf team will make wil tee off for the first time in school history this weekend as the Lady Eagles travel to the Pfeiffer Lady Falcon Invitational at the Old North State Golf Club, in New London, N.C. The Tournament begins on Sunday, September 14.
Six golfers will travel for C-N's first tournament, three who bring experience to the team. The first year program will benefit greatly from the experience of junior, Sara Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.), sophomore Caitlin Fortner (Greeneville, Tenn.) and sophomore Leah Hagedorn (Fort Oglethorpe, Ga.). Each transferred from a Division-I school.
"These girls bring so much knowledge of playing at the collegiate level which will benefit the team as a whole, especially in the next few weeks," said Coach Holly Cantwell, "This first season at Carson-Newman is a great learning experience for everyone to be back in competition."
The team also four freshman golfers, Madison Minor (Jefferson City, Tenn.), Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.), and Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.).
"The freshman girls are really working hard each day to improve their game," added Cantwell, "Not only do they have a lot of talent but they are a lot of fun to be around. I could not ask for a better group of girls to start this program."
"The team is going into this fall season with the mindset to win," said Cantwell, "We have the talent to compete in the conference and to win tournaments. This team is a solid foundation for our first year and we are very excited about competing for Carson-Newman."
Following the invitational this weekend, the Lady Eagles will compete in the Queens University of Charlotte Invitational on September 20, in Charlotte, N.C.
