Lady Eagles Finish 14th at Rainy Sawgrass
Sept. 22, 2008
Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. - The Carson-Newman women's golf team fired a Day 1 team total of 345 (+57) to finish 14th overall at the rain-shortened Queens Invitational played at the TPC at Sawgrass.
Teams finished half of their second round on Tuesday before rain forced players from the course. Weather has forced the Lady Eagles to play one-day events in each of the program's first two tournaments.
Sophomore Sara Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) led the Lady Eagles with a 77. Following three shots behind, sophomore Caitlin Fortner (Greeneville, Tenn.) turned in an 80.
Filling the third slot for Carson-Newman was sophomore Leah Hagedorn (Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga.), who shot a 93 during Monday's round.
Knoxville-area freshmen Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) and Jennifer Oliver (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished out the Carson-Newman scoring, shooting a 95 and a 106 respectively.
The Lady Eagles will tee off again Oct. 5-6 at the Lenoir-Rhyne Intercollegiate Invitational at the River Hills Golf and Country Club in Little River, S.C.
