Lady Eagles sixth at J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate

Charlotte, N.C. - The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles shaved 19 strokes off of their opening-round score to finish sixth at the 36-hole J. Ralph Hargett Memorial Intercollegiate women's golf tournament played Monday and Tuesday at the Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation in Charlotte, N.C.
Junior Sara Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) shook off a rough opening round to finish in the top 10. She fired a two-day 156 (+12), but closed with a 74 after opening with an 82 on Monday.
Sophomore Jessica Tarbet carded a 79 (+7) on Tuesday for a two-day 163 (+19) to finish 12th, two strokes out of the top 10.
Freshman Erica Ray (Maryville, Tenn.) closed in a tie for 28th after firing 86-84 (170, +26), while sophomore Leah Hagedorn (Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga.) finished 47th with a 183 (93-89, +39).
The Pfeiffer University women's golf team shot a tourney-best 315 Tuesday to win the tournament. The Falcons posted a two-day total of 637, topping second-place Newberry College by 13 strokes (637-650). Host Wingate finished fourth at 661, one stroke behind third-place UNC Pembroke (660).
Catawba finished fifth in the team standings with a 666. The rest of the field included Carson-Newman College (671), Lenoir-Rhyne University (673), Queens University of Charlotte (674), Tusculum College (677), Mount Olive College (686), Lincoln Memorial University (706) and The Citadel (717).
Carson-Newman returns to action next weekend at the Agnes McAmis Memorial played at Link Hills Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn.
