Sinard Wraps Up NCAA Play in 26th
May 6, 2009
HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla.- Carson-Newman's Sarah Jane Sinard (Jefferson City, Tenn.) fired a final-round 83 to finish in a tie for 26th at the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Super Regional Two played at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida.
The South Atlantic Conference Tournament champion went out in 37, which positioned her, at the time, for a top-15 finish. She would card a 46 on the back nine to close her day with an 11-over par round.
Nova Southeastern, Florida Southern, and Rollins, all of the Sunshine State Conference, grabbed the three team bids to nationals. Catawba College's Kelsey Babos qualified as an individual.
Sinard still closed her junior season, and the program's first season, in memorable fashion. The Jefferson City product became the first Carson-Newman golfer to win an individual title, winning the Aramark Invitational in October. She followed with the SAC title last month on the same Etowah Valley Course, only this time she matched the SAC Tournament's 54-hole record with a 225, leading C-N to a 15-stroke win and the SAC team title in the program's first season.
With her appearance at this week's NCAA Tournament, she added another "first" to both her records and the program's, in becoming C-N's first NCAA Tournament participant in women's golf.
Sinard and the Lady Eagles will be the favorites in the SAC next season. The entire C-N squad roster is set to return.
