Carson-Newman softball signs three student-athletes for 2012 season
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman softball program has signed three student-athletes during the early signing period, Lady Eagle head coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield announced Tuesday.
JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — The Carson-Newman softball program has signed three student-athletes during the early signing period, Lady Eagle head coach Vickee Kazee-Hollifield announced Tuesday.
Brittany Bass (Auburn, Ga.), Jessica Morgan (Ooltewah, Tenn.) and Bethany Davis (Nicholasville, Kentucky) have signed national letters of intent to join the Lady Eagles for the 2012 season.
"We are excited about the work we've done early in this class with these three players," Hollifield said. "We look for them to make an immediate impact within our program. Along with being outstanding players, they are also quality individuals in the classroom. We know they will work hard both on the field and in the classroom."
Bass, a 5-1 outfielder, will join C-N after a stellar career at Mill Creek High School in Hoschton, Ga. Bass, who helped lead Mill Creek to a Sweet 16 appearance in 2010, is a three-time recipient of the MVP Award and a four-time recipient of the Student Athlete Award. She received the Leadership Award in 2008 and was given the Attitude and Hustle Award. She also garnered All-American Athlete (2008), first team All-County (2010) and first team All-Region 7-5A honors and was an Elite 80 Representative in 2009.
Morgan, a 5-4 second baseman, was a standout at Ooltewah High School in Ooltewah, Tenn. She batted .487 last season with 16 RBIs and 48 runs scored and also led the area in steals with 54, earning All-District, All-Tournament and Chattanooga Times Free Press Best of Preps honors. Morgan will join former Ooltewah teammates Bri Shoemake and Sara Kelley and Frost Falcon summer league teammates Caitlyn Lance, Jessie Forrester and Haley Lawson at Carson-Newman.
Davis, a 5-7 infielder, will come to Mossy Creek after a successful career at East Jessamine High School in Nicholasville, Ky. An All-State performer, Davis led East Jessamine in batting average (.536), runs batted in and home runs (11). She also had an on base percentage of .636 and a slugging percentage of 1.071.
