"I'm really happy with how everyone hung in today in very tough conditions," head coach Jessica Shepley said. "Ida and Hannah followed their first rounds with a very impressive round two."
Ida Petersen led the Eagles and continued a strong start to the spring, finishing day one in the top ten tied for 7th. On the front nine of the first 18 holes,
Petersen shot par or better in all but one of the holes. The one bogey came on hole nine, and the same was true for the back nine, as Petersen's lone bogey came on the 11th hole. Petersen tallied a 74 on the first 18.
With a strong first round under her belt, Petersen built on it with a 73 in round two. The front nine featured a birdie on hole three, and similar to the first round, Petersen shot over par just once with a bogey on hole four. Despite two bogeys on the back nine, Petersen steadied out with a birdie on hole 13. Petersen finished the day at 3-over and is positioned to climb the leaderboard with a similar performance on day two.
Hannah Holland jumped 13 spots from round one to round two, shaving five strokes off her first-round performance to finish the day tied for 13th. Despite three birdies in the first round, Holland shot bogeys on eight of the 18 holes to shoot a 77. However, the graduate student responded with a stellar round two, shooting three birdies and over par on just two of the final 18 holes. With a 72 in the second round, Holland is in a good position at 5-over.
Caroline Nemes and Madison Cline finished the day tied for 34th, following similar performances in the first two rounds. Nemes started the first round well with a birdie on the first hole but shot bogeys on the next two holes. She steadied through the rest of the first 18 holes, shooting over par on just four other holes and even on the rest in the first round. With a score of 77 in round one, Nemes followed it up with the same total in round two to finish at 10-over.
In the front nine of round one, Cline shot four bogeys but set the tone for the back nine with a birdie on hole nine. On the next nine, she birdied twice and was over par twice to finish the round with a 75. In the second round, despite two double bogeys, she birdied on hole 17 and finished the round with 79.
Rounding out the Eagles was Macy Bromley, finishing the day tied for 68th. In round one, despite shooting five consecutive bogeys on the front nine, she shot par on the final three of the front nine. Despite a triple bogey on the first hole of the back nine, she shot over par just three more times before a birdie on 16 to help her total to an 83 in round one. Bromley made a similar effort in round two, shooting an 84 to finish the day at 23-over.
With a strong first day in tough conditions, multiple Eagles will be in a position to climb the leaderboard when the final 18 holes of the Jerry Surrate Memorial tee off at 9 a.m. tomorrow at the Stonebridge Golf Club.
